A document of the demolition of the Richard Neutra-designed 1935 home of Josef von Sternberg and Marlene Dietrich, later owned by Ayn Rand and rented by Ruth Beebe Hill and family. I was the Hills’ neighbor, friend and part-time groundskeeper/caretaker. I shot this film when I was 15. Too bad that the big curved wall around the front patio was already demolished when I started shooting. My 7th birthday party was on that patio! This footage is copyrighted by Andy Moore. FELLINI G. MASTORNA

Every director has his own cursed film. A journey so extraordinary that it was never completed: impossible. Fellini named his own: The Journey of G. Mastorna. From this name seen on the label of an airport suitcase was born an afterlife that knocked out our maestro. This split screen imagines itself in Federico’s head before, during and after this fight. It’s an investigation filmed in the studio: an unbridled multiplication of snapshots of filming, of magical archives. ——————————————————————————————————————————— Chaque réalisateur a son film maudit. Un voyage tellement extraordinaire qu’il ne fut jamais mené jusqu’à son terme : impossible. Fellini nomma le sien : Le voyage de G. Mastorna. De ce nom aperçu sur l’étiquette d’une valise d’aéroport naquit un au-delà qui mit notre maestro KO. Ce double écran s’imagine dans la tête de Federico avant, pendant et après ce combat. C’est une enquête filmée en studio : une multiplication effrénée d’instantanés de tournages, d’archives magiques.

« No picture! No picture! » they still cry out today the Hopi Indians. The Americans did the exact opposite. Kodak country is the Eldorado of the amateur filmmaker, Niagara Falls from the Home Movie (film made at home without equipment or expertise professional, showcasing its own activities and his family’s).
